The Weaving the Web program has delivered effective distance education to more than 4,000 students all over the world

The Weaving the Web program has been in operation since 1998 so it has a significant “track record.” The courses are delivered through the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a fully-accredited post-secondary college in British Columbia, Canada. Accreditation guarantees the quality of the curriculum and the excellence of the staff. These courses are not being offered by a for-profit company so every dollar you spend returns itself in service and quality.

Our Alumni

Since its inception, the Weaving the Web program has delivered online distance education courses in Web Design to more than 4,000 students worldwide. We have served learners in Great Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Manila, China, and Japan, as well as almost every state in the United States and every province in Canada. Many of our graduates now hold key IT (Information Technology) positions in large private and government agencies such as the BC Government, BC Hydro, TransLink, TELUS, the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB), LottoBC, the United Nations, Electronic Arts (the leading gaming company in North America), the UBC Biotechnology Laboratory, Malaspina University College, Langara College, University College of the Cariboo, College of New Caledonia, the University of Northern BC, Capilano College, and many other colleges and secondary schools in BC and elsewhere. More than 30% of our graduates now operate their own successful Web design companies.

Our Faculty

The 8 instructors in this program are all fully-qualified Web designers all of whom work directly in the industry or operate their own successful Web design businesses. Their academic qualifications range from doctorates to diplomas in Web design. All of our instructors remain completely up-to-date in the industry, so the instruction you get will involve the most current techniques and skills that are available.

Two Certificate Programs

You can choose the level of proficiency you wish to achieve from the two certificate options available. An Associate Certificate in Web Technologies may be achieved by completing 8 core courses and a Certificate is awarded after completing the Associate Certificate plus 8 advanced courses. The Associate Certificate is appropriate for those wishing to hold junior positions in industry, while the Certificate is designed for those who aspire to senior positions. You may also take individual courses to increase your present skillset.

Build your Own Timetable

You may determine your own hours for study -- the course interface is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and 365 days per year (24x7x365). Because so many of our students live in different time zones, no synchronous (in real time) options are included. The only deadlines you must meet are the assignment due dates — approximately one assignment every two weeks for most courses.

Full-time Study/Fast-Track Option

While this program is essentially designed for mid-career professionals who wish to enhance their Web design skillset while continuing to work full time, the Fast-Track option is available which allows completion of these programs on a full-time basis. With the Fast-Track option, you may begin the second-level (MDIA 2205) course before entirely completing the first-level course (MDIA 1205), thus allowing you to complete the “basics” courses in one term period. Once the basic courses (MDIA 1205 AND 2205) are completed, you may take any of the remaining courses concurrently (i.e., at the same time). The six-week courses (MDIA 2205, 3201, and 3206) are offered twice each term. If the Fast-Track option appeals to you, please inquire about it.

Save Money and Time Studying Online

Most of the courses in this program are also available as classroom-based (face-to-face) courses at BCIT and at other institutions. However, if you live some distance from a college campus, consider the costs of travel to and from the college for classroom-based instruction, the inconvenience of attending classes on a specific day and at a specific time, and other costs, such as parking, meals, and accommodations, involved in attending classroom-based courses.
